University of Patras is a nationally and internationally distinguished and renowned higher education institution, due to its diverse and innovative action in fields of natural sciences, engineering, and health sciences as well as humanity, social and economic sciences. It is the 3rd largest University in Greece (approx. 34000 undergraduate students, 4000 postgraduate students and 700 faculty members) and the largest educational and research institution in the region of Western Greece. University of Patras was founded in November 1964, while in June 2013 the University of Western Greece was integrated in University of Patras and in May 2019 the majority of the Departments of the Technical Educational Institution of Western Greece (TEI of Western Greece) merged with University of Patras. The vision of the University focuses on being a model institution which promote the spirit and culture of the international cooperation and scientific progress. The aim is gradually accomplished through its remarkable research activity.
The participating groups of the University of Patras in INSPIRED Research Infrastructure (RI), are the core labs of the “UPAT-RISF” RI, which is coupled with INTRUCT-EL to become the INSPIRED National RI and provide an impressive research activity and extensive experience in attracting and managing large European projects, such as FP7-HEALTH (NEUROCYPRES/202088), FP7-INFRA (EAST-NMR/228461), FP7-RESEARCH POTENTIAL (SEEDRUG/285950), MSC Actions (SYNTRAIN/722729 & Individual Grants NMRSIGN/795175), H2020-INFRA (iNEXT/653706), ERC GRANTs (DYNACOM & DYNACOMP/281851 & 755284), H2020-BLUE GROWTH (MARISURF/635340), COST ACTION (CA15133/FesBioNET/653706), participate in several National RI projects other than INSPIRED/MIS-5002550, suh as OMIC-ENGINE/MIS-5002636, ELIXIR-GR/MIS-5002780, BIOIMAGING/MIS-5002755, and attraction of other national projects like H.F.R.I., GSRI (Research-Innovate-Create initiative) and scholarship programs for Postdoctoral Researchers and PhD Candidates Researchers.
