Name / Organization:
National Technical University of Athens (NTUA)
Role in the infrastructure:
Coordinator
DESCRIPTION:

The Biotechnology Laboratory (http://www.chemeng.ntua.gr/labs/biotech/index.html) of the School of Chemical Engineering in the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA), led by Associate Professor Evangelos Topakas has a renowned world reputation in the area of novel enzyme discovery, using multiple approaches including recombinant expression in prokaryotic and eukaryotic hosts, as well as native protein isolation. The PI, Professor Dimitris Kekos is an expert in fermentation technology in bioreactors for large-scale production of enzymes with industrial applications. The laboratory possesses all the equipment necessary for the project implementation: protein expression and purification, as well as protein analytical infrastructure (SDS-PAGE, IEF) and experience is available. A. Zerva is an early stage researcher with great expertise in the use of molecular biology techniques for production of recombinant enzymes in heterologous hosts, as well as scale up and purification of recombinant and native proteins.
