Since its establishment in 1920, Hellenic Pasteur Institute (HPI) remains faithful to its
mission, which is the prevention and treatment of Diseases through Basic Research, Education
and Public Health Services. The traditional focus of the Institute has been on Infectious
Diseases. Currently other diseases are also under study such as autoimmune,
neurodegenerative, neuromuscular, neuroimmune and certain types of cancer.
The activities of the HIP support: i) the promotion of research excellence and innovation in
Biomedical Research, the strengthening of the country's research potential, the training of
young scientists and ii) the protection of Public Health through the activity of the
National Reference Laboratories for infectious diseases, as well as meeting national needs
for vaccines and biological products.
